Responsibilities
The City of Calgary invites applications for a highly-motivated communications generalist to fill the role of Communications Specialist, to support the communications plans and tactics created for internal client groups. There is the opportunity to provide a broad range of tactical communications services while working collaboratively with peers within the department.
Reporting to the Manager, Public Affairs your primary duties are to:
Organize and implement a number of annual events and conferences that the Calgary Fire Department hosts and /or participates in.
Assist in the information gathering, writing and editing for a variety of mediums including internal newsletters, project materials, intranet and web content, presentations and speeches.
Support the development of and manage the process for an internal intake system for clients’ communications needs.
Provide tactical assistance to the Communications Strategist and Advisor and support the successful implementation of various communications plans and activities.
Develop a process for capture and reporting of Public Affairs performance measures and maintain the information for reporting on a monthly basis.
Support the coordination and production of communications collateral.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
The successful applicant must possess a diploma (equivalent to two to three years full-time study) or degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Business with a minimum of three years related experience. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) is required. Web editing course/experience would be an asset. Excellent interpersonal skills and writing ability are essential to this position.
