$36.65 – 40.30 – 42.32 – 44.43 – 46.65 – 48.99 per hour
Hours of Work: This position works a standard 35 hour work week.
Business Unit Information
Community Services & Protective Services (CS&PS) is The City of Calgary’s largest department with over 5,000 employees who enrich Calgarians’ quality of life through a wide range of leisure, social and public safety services and programs.
Recreation is seeking three highly motivated and astute senior level communicators. Successful candidates will be well-rounded generalists with senior experience in all facets of communications and media relations.
Develop communications plans and marketing strategies that foster strong relationships with partners, internal stakeholders and the public.
Develop, maintain and implement communications tactics that support communication strategies i.e. news releases, marketing collateral, briefing notes, digital content etc.
Special event planning to support open houses, ground breakings or grand openings.
Environmental scanning and proactive issues identification and mitigation.
Media relations preparedness, coaching and related support for designated spokespeople.
Stakeholder consultation and engagement for specific projects as identified.
The successful applicant must possess a completed degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business or related field with a minimum of six years of progressively senior experience in communications and strategic planning. Strong business literacy and acumen is required. Familiarity with community development processes and capital project planning is an asset. A designation in Accredited Business Communicator (ABC), Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), and/or a certificate in the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) will be considered an asset. Previous experience working on capital development projects will also be considered an asset.
The applicant must be able to apply strategic communication principles across diverse business functions, identify sensitive issues and be experienced in coaching staff and leaders at all levels. Success in this role requires superior interpersonal skills, flexibility, strong organizational skills, political sensitivity and ability to contribute as a team member.
